Hi 3H, Yesterday, Ellasyn read If You Take A Mouse To School to us and it was AMAZING! These are some of my favorite books and hopefully you will get he chance to write and illustrate your own version later on in the year. Please watch the video below. I hadn't seen this version yet but I think its pretty funny.... Once you have watched this version, please click on the link to post about what title you might give your version of the story when we embark on this fun opportunity!!
Hi 3H, Tomorrow we will be embarking on a new PBL journey. In this PBL making trades with other countries based on what you have in your "Country" will be the focus.... Please watch the video that talks about International trading and why it is important to the countries involved. In this PBL you will need to cme up with a name for your country. Please post about the name you would choose for your brand new country.
Hi 3H, Today we learned about the difference between a common and proper noun. We discussed that fact that at one point in our life we were most likely a common noun. After you watch the video about the top 5 boy and girl names of 2016 please ask your parents how long you were a common noun for.... Once you have that answer please post it on the sharing wall. P.S. I also posted the video of our favorite finger biting baby named Charlie!
I'm quite sure all of you realize the importance of reading and the major role it plays in your child's education. To help foster a love of reading and build on the skills your son/daughter have already acquired is one of our main goals for the year. In order to meet this goal, your help is required. The research numbers on home reading are mind blowing. Just a few extra minutes a night make all of the difference when we look at things like vocabulary/ word decoding and ultimately ease of comprehension.
We don't have access to a home reading program in grade three but we do have an ever growing classroom and school library. We also have access to RAZ kids. They have a wonderful online selection of books that the students can either read themselves or listen to. The benefit of RAZ kids is the quiz that follows the book. We have access to the results and can intervene if a problem is realized.
We ask that your son/daughter reads for 20 minutes every night. The students should be using the rule of five and reading good fit books. If you feel that your son/daughter needs more resources to carry out their home reading every night please let us know and we will work something out.
I have attached the RAZ kids link below. The teacher username is chusebya. The students will need to click on their username(first initial of first name and then last name) and enter in their password. The password is "fhv" and it is the same for everyone. I have also attached a link to the research regarding the benefits of home reading. Lastly, the video shown below talks about the importance of reading and why it is so crucially important.
To help us get to know your son/daughter a little better we are asking you to fill out the following questionnaire. All of the information collected in the Google form is confidential and will only be looked at by Mr.Monks and myself. If you would prefer to receive a paper copy of this questionnaire please let me know and I will send one home.
Thanks for your help with this,
Mr.Huseby and Mr.Monks
